S-GE has once again proven its benefits for exporting SMEs and has responded quickly to changing needs and increased demand.

Guy ParmelinPresident of the Swiss Confederation

The past year has been marked by profound challenges for the export industry. Along with the continued strength of the Swiss franc, the complex tariff situation in the US in particular has had a significant impact on the affected companies.

At the same time, new opportunities have also opened up, such as by making use of the free trade agreement with India, which entered into force on October 1, 2025.

S-GE has once again proven its benefits for exporting SMEs and has responded quickly to changing needs and increased demand.

In view of the volatile international trading environment, targeted support from S-GE remains crucial – whether in tapping new markets or diversifying business activities to ensure that the Swiss export industry remains strong, flexible, and successful.

An internationally competitive economy is also a key location factor for internationally active, value-added companies. They invest in Switzerland, promote innovation and the exchange of knowledge, and send positive signals about the future prospects of our economy. In the fiercely contested international settlement business, S-GE – together with the cantons – is making important contributions to strengthening Switzerland as a business location.

Preface

A Conversation Between Simone Wyss Fedele and Ruth Metzler-Arnold

Our CEO and President discuss the highlights, developments, and challenges of 2025.

The tense global situation and US tariff policy are amplifying the pressure on Switzerland as a business and innovation location. The focus of investment promotion on hand-picked global innovation leaders will refresh Switzerland’s innovative capacity and in doing so, sustainably strengthen our business location.

Export promotion offers SMEs valuable support, in turn generating benefits for our entire economy: every franc in tax invested generates 34 more francs in export sales. But we have to stay the course as the international environment remains volatile. S-GE is doing everything it can to create offers that align with demand. For example, so that SMEs can make better use of existing and new free trade agreements.
